A Tale of Taking Way To Stinkin' Long

This is the story about a girl who tried to be on top of things to avoid stress later. She dutifully filled out her FAFSA in May and filled it out for her husband as well.

A month later, her husband got his financial aid and the girl was still aid-less. A to-do list item came up in her financial center. Independent Verification Form and Tax Transcripts required. She filled out the verification form and waited for it to go away off her to-do list. Nothing. She printed out her tax forms and took them to student services.

"Oh dear" said the boy at the student services desk, "I'm afraid we don't accept the tax forms anymore. You need to have the IRS mail you a transcript"

Intrigued and more than a little agitated, the girl inquired further about these transcripts she had never heard of.

"You can also go back to your FAFSA and click the IRS sumbit button and it will automatically upload the information to us" said the boy.

Confused, the girl told him that back in May when she filed the FAFSA originally, that was the exact button that she had used. A quick phone call downstairs confirmed that BYU had had her information all along and her aid was unnecessarily delayed.

Now, the girl has to wait another 3 weeks for BYU to even calculate her aid before she can take it to the financial aid office and appeal it because her family contribution to school this year will NOT be so much as the government so erroneously believes it will be. If she had such money to contribute to school, she would not be APPLYING for aid!
